BA 패리스의 ‘비하인드 도어’를 읽고, 같은 작가가 쓴 ‘브레이크 다운’을 읽은 나를 칭찬한다. 초반에는 조금 지루했지만 읽다 보면 어느 순간 너무 자연스럽게 ‘마지막 50쪽 반전’으로 이어지는 경험을 어제에 이어 오늘도 하고 있다. 이 책의 원제 ‘The Break down’은 ‘고장’이라는 뜻으로 자동차나 기계의 고장뿐 아니라 사람의 정신적 문제도 가리키며 흔히 정신적 붕괴를 가리키는 신경쇠약(nervous break down)이라는 말에 쓰인다.
